The Cambridge City School District Music program serves hundreds of students in kindergarten through 12th grade and features specific vocal and instrumental music instructions for Middle School and High School students.
Starting off in kindergarten, every student at the Cambridge Primary building attends a weekly 40-minute music class. First graders present a Winter Music Program, and second graders present a Spring Program.
CPS also has two second grade choirs. Select second grade students are invited to participate. Music is also offered as part of the CATS Club After School Program.
Students continue music classes at the Intermediate School with each student participating in a music special at least once a week. In class, students study units for world drumming, recorders, ukuleles, music history, and instruments of the orchestra.
Each year, the fourth-grade students perform a holiday program, and the fifth-grade students present a spring program. During the 2023-2024 school year, fourth and fifth grade students are participating in the Link-up Concert, an interactive concert put on through the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Orchestra with curriculum through Carnegie Hall.
Recently added at the Intermediate School is an opportunity for fifth grade students to begin instrumental music lessons. The fifth-grade band performs a few songs with the Middle School and High School bands at a spring concert.
At the Middle School, students in sixth grade take a semester long general music class where they explore a variety of musical topics from history to theory.
Sixth grade band is a continuation of the 5th grade band where students work on developing and improving the technical and musical skills needed to play a musical instrument. They meet two to three times per week for rehearsals and perform at least twice per year.
At Middle School, seventh and eighth grade bands meet two to three times per week to develop more intermediate skills. Band members have several large and small group performance opportunities.
