Evancho Re-Elected as Board President, Peoples as Vice President
The Cambridge City School District Board of Education started the new year with its annual organizational meeting Thursday at the Garfield Administrative Center. For the second consecutive year, the board elected David Evancho board president and Dave Peoples as vice-president. 
 David Evancho“It is an honor, for the second year in a row, to be selected by my colleagues to lead the school board,” Evancho said. “I am proud to serve as president and I am glad my colleagues saw fit to elect me to a second term as president.
 
“Like last year, I just want to guide this group of experienced educators in the right direction and let our district and students benefit from their knowledge and experience,” Evancho added. “My overall goal remains to continue to improve our district.” 
 
Board member David Peoples was re-elected as vice president of the board. Peoples served as the board president prior to Evancho taking over in 2024. 
 
In other annual business, the board decided on the third Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. for the monthly board meetings. The location will usually be at the Garfield Administrative Center but can move to other locations if deemed necessary. 
 
The board authorized the Superintendent to employ temporary personnel as needed for emergency situations. Such employment shall be presented for approval by the Board at the next regular meeting. The board also authorized the Superintendent as the executive officer under Ohio Revised Code Section 3319.01 to accept any resignation from employment tendered by a district employee. 
 
The board also designated the Daily Jeffersonian as the official newspaper for publication of notices required to be made in a newspaper. 
 
In other business, the board approved the 2025-2026 student school calendar. Each year, a calendar committee made up of teachers, staff, and administrators drafts a school calendar. As part of the December meeting, the board conducted a public hearing for input on the recommended 2025-2026 calendar. 

The school calendar includes a staggered start to the school year beginning August 14, 2025, a 10-day Christmas break, and graduation on May 9, 2026. Students will be off on November 10, 2025, to observe Veterans’ Day, but be in school on November 11, 2025, to participate in Veterans’ Day activities at school and at the Guernsey County Courthouse. 
 
The full calendar will be posted on the district website soon which will include a chart of the first day of school for each grade level. 
 
In other business, the board approved for the superintendent to enter into an agreement with LifeTouch for student photographs and year books for 2025-2026; and approved Donald Addlespurger as a substitute custodian. 
 
The next meeting of the Board of Education will be at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the Garfield Administrative Center.
